Welcome, Third Grade Friends and Families!
I am so glad that I will have the opportunity to work with you throughout the year to help guide our third graders to success. Before we begin the year, I wanted to introduce myself to you. My name is Melanie Coleman and this will be my fifth year of teaching. I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO. I am very family oriented. I was born and raised in Belton, Missouri to two amazing and supportive parents. While growing up I shared all of my experiences with my best friend and older sister, Amanda. My nephew, Logan, will turn nine in January; He is definitely a source of constant entertainment! My niece, Freya, will be one year old in May. During my free time, I enjoy reading (mostly Science-Fiction or Fantasy.) I try to spend as much time outside as I possibly can. I spent a lot of time this past summer camping, hiking and hanging out in the back yard enjoying the sunshine. My dog, Cooper, will be three years old in February.
I am excited to get to know your children. I want to support each child in the class to the best of my ability. It is my deepest hope to help your children succeed in all they set out to do. It is my goal to build a fun, active and supportive learning community. Creating the classroom family is very important to me, as it will help everyone in the classroom achieve both their learning and their life goals. I practice Conscious Discipline in my classroom. Conscious Discipline integrates social-emotional learning, discipline and self-regulation in a way that teaches vital life skills. To learn more about Conscious Discipline, I encourage you to visit the website or come to me with any questions that you may have.
Teaching has become my true passion in life. It is my belief that every child can be encouraged, supported, and guided to help them achieve their goals. The year ahead of us will be filled with many opportunities to grow and learn together in monumental ways, and I cannot wait to get started! Communication is extremely important in helping our third graders reach their goals. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time for any reason.
Thank you,
Melanie Coleman
